whats the difference between a psychologist and a therapist
Anonymous ● 03 May, 2019 ⚓︎
anyone who does therapy is considered a therapist. "therapist" is a protected term so you have to be certified in order to practice. that said, psychologists tend to have more advanced degrees (phd, psyd, ect.). people acting as psychologists perform more clinical work, diagnose disorders, or do research. neither a therapist nor a psychologist can prescribe medicine. for this reason when assisting patients, a therapist or psychologist usually work in tandem with a psychiatrist who is a full doctor with an m.d. specializing in mental disorders.
