not to worry, stds cannot be passed just by being in proximity to someone else. it's perfectly safe to hug and touch anyone with an std. in fact, hiv, the virus which leads to aids, cannot be passed by saliva which means you could even make out with someone with hiv and not be at risk! try not to make people feel bad about these things, it's not like you would treat someone with some other kind non-airborne infection like they have the plague.

be supportive wherever you can! it certainly doesn't matter if someone has hiv or aids or herpes. these things happen and it can't be passed to you without some kind of sexual contact or fluid exchange
